UnitedHealth Group is hiring a Customer Service Representative in Brewer, ME. This is a remote position in Maine, offered through Optum in strategic partnership with Northern Light Health. Please note: this role is remote in Maine only, not nationwide remote.
About the Role
The Customer Service Representative works remotely in Maine for Optum, in strategic partnership with Northern Light Health. The role is full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm EST with flexibility, and includes 6–8 weeks of on-the-job training during business hours. Training for the first 6–8 weeks is onsite at the office at 43 Whiting Hill Rd, Brewer, ME 04412, after which the role is remote. You must reside within commutable distance of that office.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in team huddles and meetings, sharing knowledge with the team
- Provide excellent customer service through first-call resolution
- Advocate for patients regarding complaints and billing within established policies
- Advise management of customer service issues needing attention
- Resolve assigned accounts in a timely and accurate manner, maximizing reimbursement
- Research and resolve outstanding patient balances per departmental policy
- Meet or exceed Northern Light Health quality and productivity standards
- Schedule patient payment plans per internal policy
- Problem-solve with peers and leaders on patient balance issues
- Support team goals and objectives and understand department KPIs
- Advise management of payment variance issues
- Maintain knowledge of collection protocols, payer, regulatory policies, and laws, and attend internal education sessions
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Age 18 or older
- 1+ years of customer service experience (healthcare, insurance, government, or social services)
- 1+ years of data entry experience
- Basic proficiency with a Windows PC and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm EST with flexibility
- Ability to complete onsite training for 6–8 weeks at the Brewer, ME office
- Flu vaccination is an essential job function
Preferred: 1+ years of healthcare customer service experience; medical terminology; experience with Northern Light Health.
Telecommuting requirements: reside within commutable distance of the Brewer office; a dedicated work area separated from living areas; UHG-approved high-speed internet.
