About the Role
As an ambulatory neurosurgery nurse, you will work directly with neurosurgeons in the practice. The patient population is mainly adults, with some pediatric patients. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care
- Work directly with neurosurgeons in the ambulatory neurosurgery practice
- Surgically list patients for their procedures
- Provide pre- and post-operative teaching to patients
- Handle telephone triage and telehealth follow-up
- Care mainly for adult patients, with some pediatric patients
Requirements
Required: graduation from a nursing program accredited by the ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA; at least 1 year of professional RN experience; a current RN license before the start date; and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification valid for 90 days after the start date. A BSN is preferred, and neurosurgery or surgical experience is helpful. Entry-level ADN-prepared RNs whose first RN employment start date was on or after April 1, 2020 must complete a BSN within 5 years of starting. New graduates are considered through the Nurse Residency Program.
